We do tend to spend too much time, too much money and put in too much effort in the pursuit of happiness, when we can just be happy and content. That does not mean lethargic, but more in a Stoic way, happy and appreciative with what we have.
The BBC published a great one hour discussion on the global economy with Nassim Nicholas Taleb.
Darren wrote a telling reply to a question he’s posted often, and one relevant not just to travel or cycling. How does one afford to travel. For most of us, it is really about choice: a choice to spend on one thing or another and as Darren has learned early and I a bit later it is the experiences that count the most, not the stuff. When I consider what makes me happy, what I remember fondly, it’s NEVER something, it’s always an adventure, a conversation, a meeting, a dinner, a bike ride, or trip that warms my heart gets the good juices flowing.

Leo Tatemichi Rides Through The Streets of Kamakura on a three wheeled cake stand selling delectable baked goodies and beaming at passersby.
What drew me to this experience is how lovely it would be to experience it. The closeness and creativity of the owner/creator to the neighborhood and how mobile he is.
