Making Arancello From Garden Fruit

By Artur Ciesielski | Fare

We have oranges, tangelo, mandarines and grapefruit, but no lemons: we can’t make limoncello so here is my quest to use up the fruit we do have.

This is my first test and first bottle.

For it I’m using two tangelo and two oranges.

The ingredients.

  • 2 cups of vodka – 100 proof.
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • Juice of 2-3 oranges.
  • Zest of 4 oranges.

I purchased two bottles of vodka. One 151 proof and 1 100 proof. I’ll use both.

When zesting, be careful not to include the pith, it’s bitter and you don’t want it.

Usually sugar and water are mixed and added after the zest matures on the vodka for 4-6 weeks. In this case I just put it all together in a bottle and instead of the water I used juice.

Because I used juice I reduced the amount of sugar.

I’ll be back in 4-6 weeks with the result.
